CEO TF NET BARU

Salam PERPETA,

Presiden dan AJK PERPETA mengucapkan "TAHNIAH dan SELAMAT MAJU JAYA" kepada Dr Desa yang telah dilantik menjadi CEO TF-Net. Dr Desa juga merupakan Timbalan Presiden PERPETA. Beliau yang kini telah berpejabat di Kompleks MARDI, Serdang, Selangor setelah lama bertugas di IADA Barat Laut Selangor. Jawatan ini dahulu pernah disandang oleh En Yacob Ahmad. Dr Desa memang ada kepakaran berkaitan dengan pengembangan dan lama belajar di Thailand. Semasa artikel ini ditulis beliau berada di Thailand berdasarkan kepada facebook yang diposting pada 3 Jun 2015 untuk menjalankan tugas bersama orang Siam. 

Background:
International Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet) is an independent and self-financing global network established under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It is both intergovernmental and inter-institutional in nature, with the mandate and role to promote sustainable global development of the tropical fruit industry in relation to production, consumption and trade. It is membership-based, with members acting through one lead agency on inter-country decisions. It is based in Malaysia.
TFNet is an expanding network with 162 members from 39 countries, 14 of them are country members: Bangladesh, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, Sudan, Syria, Vietnam, Australia, Sri Lanka, and Saudi Arabia. It also has 17 associate members composed of companies and organizations and 198 ordinary members.
Activities of TFNet include conducting consultancies and studies, project implementation, and organizing workshops, conferences, and seminars.

Objectives
  • To act as repository and facilitate exchange of information on production, processing, marketing, consumption and international trade of tropical fruits;
  • To promote, coordinate and support research, development, and technology-transfer from production to post-harvest handling. This includes downstream processing for industrial use that increases productivity and value;
  • To facilitate the expansion of international trade of tropical fruits;
  • To enhance human resource development in the tropical fruit industry;
  • To organize generic market promotion in collaboration with exporters and importers;
  • To strengthen consumer knowledge of the nutritional value of tropical fruits;
  • To sensitize and facilitate implementation of international and regional agreements on production, marketing, consumption, and international trade of tropical fruits; and
  • To promote technical and economic exchanges in the tropical fruits sector in pursuance of sustainable production, strengthening of domestic market, poverty eradication and food security.
